Watch for rising prices

September 20, 2006

Prices don’t always go down at Wal*Mart. I’ve been drinking a lot of water lately, since my urologist said I wasn’t drinking near enough of it. I mostly stick to bottled water. It is easier to drink a lot since it has no nasty taste. I’ve tried to stick to Wal*Mart since they had a case of 24 bottles for $3.50. Well, today it is up to $4.28 for the same brand! In their defense, a big chunk of the cost of bottled water has to be transportation. Diesel fuel prices have not come down anywhere near as fast as gasoline.

We had nice weather over the weekend. I watched a lot of football on Saturday. Kentucky won its SEC opener for the first time in 19 years. On Sunday, Bonnie hosted a reunion for her family. Good food, and great conversation.

One thing that had been missing from my antique radio collection was a Zenith Transoceanic. I finally got a good deal on a model 1000 on eBay. The one I bought is in pretty good shape cosmetically and electrically. Here are some pictures:

We had another very enjoyable weekend.

Saturday was the annual Midwest Miata Gathering, sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati Miata Club. With great weather, we participated in a couple of drives on the back roads, and had a couple excellent meals. There were vendors of various products and services at the site for consultation. Bonnie and I both won door prizes, just as we did the last time we attended the MMG.

We stayed in Cincinnati Saturday night, and I watched Ohio State beat Texas on the TV in our hotel room. Kentucky picked up its first win of the season.

Sunday was my nephew Nick’s fourth birthday party. Great weather again, and I got to spend some time in the swimming pool.

We stayed in Columbus Sunday night, then had a leisurely trip home Monday morning. Bonnie and I had plenty of time to catch up on things Monday afternoon, before going back to work on Tuesday.

Last  weekend was a busy one, with both happiness and sadness.

Saturday morning, our Miata club displayed our cars at the Lexington Concours d’Elegance. Bonnie and I spent over two hours walking around and looking at some beautiful classic cars.

We then took the backroads north, and had lunch with long-time friends N7TG and N4PRK. We hadn’t seen them in awhile, so we had a lot to catch up on. Couldn’t stay long though, as we needed to get to Newport at 3:00.

We met Andy and his family at the Newport Aquarium. It was nice to visit my three youngest nephews without having to drive all the way to Columbus. We then spent some time at a German place, just sipping a beverage and talking.

It was a real shocker to get up Sunday morning and hear about the tragic plane crash. I did not know anyone on the plane, but of course, I have friends who did.

We’re not planning to do much this weekend, after a couple weekends on the road. We’ll be back in the car next weekend with activities in Ohio. So, we’ll do some house cleaning, and get caught up on a few things.
