Entry for March 06, 2008 part 2

The Blue Jackets are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but their chances are getting slimmer by the day. They have done fairly well on the road recently. They have the odd habit of beating some of the better teams in the NHL, but losing to teams below them in the standings. The majority of their remaining games are at home, but that may not be good news.

The Kentucky men are in second place in the SEC East, one game ahead of Vanderbilt. If the teams end up tied, Vanderbilt will win the tie-breaker. The second-place teams gets a first-round bye in the conference tourney. The last regular-season game, and Senior Day, is Sunday against Florida. Vanderbilt travels to Tuscaloosa Saturday.

The OSU men have a similar situation. They are one game ahead of Minnesota in the “race” for fifth place. The fifth-seeded team is the last to get a first-round bye in the Big 10 tournament. The Bucks got their first “quality win” of the season in upsetting Purdue 80-77 in overtime Tuesday night. The last regular-season game, and Senior Day, is Sunday against Michigan State. Minnesota travels to Illinois Saturday to face a team that blew them out of Minneapolis earlier in the year.
