Entry for July 05, 2008

It’s been almost a month since I’ve written here, but I took the time to take a new picture just now. Hope you like it.

Even with $4 gas, Bonnie and I have tried to get out-and-about a bit on the weekends. Two weekends ago, we went to the Marietta, Ohio area with the Greater Cincinnati Miata Club. Many of the roads in southeastern Ohio are great for sports cars. We met up with Miata owners from several towns in Ohio, and one from northern Indiana.

Last weekend was the annual ham radio Field Day. We rented a cabin on Gwinn Island in Herrington Lake (same one we had last year). I operated using 5 watts on 100% battery power. Due to the low relative elevation of the island, I didn’t expect to make many contacts. But, I ended up with about 66 on voice and 52 using Morse code. With multipliers and bonus points, my final score was exactly 1000 points.

Anyone who follows hockey knows that free agency began at noon on July 1. The Columbus Blue Jackets made several deals, so there will be a lot of new faces in the lineup this fall. I have no idea if the changes are for the better or for the worse, but changes were inevitable given the lackluster performance of the team in its short history.
