The Kids Are Alright

Columbus Dispatch hockey writer Aaron Portzline and others found that the old song The Kids Are Alright by The Who came to mind after the Blue Jackets’ win Saturday night over Minnesota. Rookie Nikita Filatov recorded a hat trick in his sixth NHL game. Rookie net minder Steve Mason is leading the league in several goaltending statistics. With a number of veterans hurt, the rookies have been running the show lately.

The Jackets collected 8 standings points on a brutal 6-game road trip. The last game of the trip was a 3-0 shutout of Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. It was Mason’s sixth shutout of the season.

With so many injuries, a lot of us expected a real disaster over the last couple games. But just the opposite happened. Columbus continues to be in the playoff race, but must keep up their current momentum. Tomorrow night Colorado visits Nationwide Arena.
