Entry for February 08, 2009

When Steve Mason came down with mononucleosis, the goaltending situation in Columbus was suddenly a mess. With back-up goalie Wade Dubielewicz out with the flu, Dan LaCosta got his first NHL start. He only gave up two goals to the best team in hockey, and the Blue Jackets beat San Jose 3-2 in overtime, to end a three-game losing streak.

With about 30 games to go in the season, not a single team in the Western Conference is out of the running for a playoff spot. Last place St. Louis is only 5 points below “the bar”.

The Ohio State men avenged a earlier loss in Minnesota by beating the Gophers last night 64-58. With four wins in-a-row and a conference record of 7-4, the Bucks are in third place, only two games behind first-place Michigan State in the loss column.

The women were in action today. Kentucky lost to Vanderbilt 72-62. Ohio State lost in East Lansing 52-46, but still have a one-game (in the loss column) lead in the Big Ten.

The weather here has turned quite warm. Today it was sunny with highs in the 60s. It is supposed to stay warm for awhile.
