Entry for March 05, 2009

The Kentucky women’s team was eliminated in the first round of the SEC tournament this afternoon by Georgia. The Cats held a one-point lead at halftime, but ended up losing big. At 15-15, I would say Kentucky is on the bubble for a WNIT bid.

The Kentucky men suffered an incredibly embarrassing loss last night to Georgia in Rupp Arena, 90-85. Georgia had the worst record of any SEC team, and lost by 23 to the Cats in Athens. Many UK fans are ready to call an end to the Billy Gillispie era at Kentucky.

Ohio State won at Iowa by 2 to complete a sweep of the Hawkeyes. Right now it is pretty murky trying to figure out how the final regular season standings will look in the Big Ten, and hence the seedings for the conference tournament. Penn State hosts Illinois tonight, and it would be best for the Bucks if the Illini could pull off a win. Meanwhile, Ohio State hosts Northwestern Sunday afternoon for the regular season finale.

Despite giving up 3 goals over a 1 minute-55 second span, the Blue Jackets came back and beat Los Angeles 5-4 Tuesday night. Columbus is in Nashville tonight.
