Entry for April 09, 2009

Tuesday night, for the first time, I watched an NHL game not involving Columbus. Chicago won in Nashville 4-2. The Preds were one of the teams challenging Columbus for a playoff spot. The loss reduced the Blue Jackets’ magic number.

Last night Columbus won in Chicago 4-3 in a shootout. So, the Jackets are in the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The seeding is yet to be determined, but it seems likely they will stay in sixth place where they are now.

Oddly, two of the biggest wins in franchise history were not televised here. The first was a game in Calgary that was the Jackets’ first win ever. The second was last night’s game.

Happy Easter to all readers!
