Some sunspot activity

After long periods of time with no sunspots, activity has been picking up a bit lately as we move into the beginning of Cycle 24. The twelve-meter amateur band, mostly dead over the past few years, is showing some signs of life. I’ve made several contacts there this weekend.

The Ohio State men have now won 6 games in-a-row since the loss at West Virginia, including a rout at Illinois today and a rout at Indiana Wednesday. The Bucks are tied for first in the Big Ten, but there is a logjam near the top. The UK men picked up two 11-point wins at home this week.

The UK women have a small lead in Nashville as I type this. The Cats have won an incredible 8 in-a-row. Tennessee and Kentucky are 1 and 2 in the SEC, and are way ahead of the rest of the field.

The OSU women have already wrapped up their sixth-straight Big Ten championship. The other 10 teams in the Big Ten are bunched together with records near .500 in the league.

Columbus lost to Vancouver Friday night 4-3, Claude Noel’s first loss as interim head coach. The Jackets are currently behind Chicago 4-3 at the second intermission in the last game before the Olympic break.
