WEG Monitoring

September 27, 2010

The World Equestrian Games got started in the Kentucky Horse Park Saturday night, and will run through October 10. Something like 355,000 tickets were sold. So, we have a lot of visitors from all around the world.

For VHF and UHF monitoring, here is what I have heard so far:

There is a repeater on 461.550 that seems to be general coordination of the work force. There is no local licensee for this frequency so the equipment was probably brought in for the WEG.

The Lexington Police seem to be using their channel 7 (155.790) for WEG-related traffic. I have a bad noise there right now so haven’t been monitoring that frequency.

The Kentucky Department of Transportation has been using 156.180 for traffic-control comms. In the winter, this is also an interesting frequency as the state snow plows/salt trucks are there.

My short position in KO September 55 calls was assigned early on Sept. 13. So I am short KO @ 55, hedged by a long position in KO January 45 calls. Profit on the write of the 55s was +1.20.

My short position in NE Sep 34 calls was assigned, so I am short NE @ 34, hedged by a long position in Jan 25 calls. Profit on the written calls was +3.37

My short position in T Sep 26 calls was assigned, so I am short T @ 26, hedged by a long position in Jan 17.50 calls. Profit on the written calls was +0.75

My short position in BTU Sep 37 calls was assigned, so I am short BTU @ 37, hedged by a long position in Jan 25 calls. Profit on the written calls was +4.47.

The TEVA Sep 60 calls I had written expired worthless for a profit of +3.31.

This and That

September 7, 2010

I am finally caught up on all QSLing, including eQSL. I don’t have much personal interest in using eQSL since confirmations obtained that way are not valid for ARRL awards. I understand some other amateur awards programs accept eQSLs, so I process any incoming cards. I was YEARS behind until recently.

If you have logged a QSO for me on eQSL, qrz.com or direct, you should have an answer by now if you are in the log. If not, get in touch with me.

I have had all kinds of trouble with LoTW so I am still not doing that. I don’t presently use computer logging so I don’t have ADIF files to upload. I suspect, though, that I will eventually get that going.

The college football season is off to a good start. Ohio State beat Marshall Thursday night. Kentucky jumped all over Louisville Saturday then held on for a 7-point win. The defense made some horrendous mistakes down the stretch that kept the Cards in the game. But, a win is a win. I forgot to watch the Boise State – Virginia Tech game last night. Sounds like it was a good one.

Retirement has been great. I have been able to devote time to a lot of projects and have been on the air a lot.
