The Columbus Blue Jackets finished December 10-1-1 and have climbed back to .500 (16-16-3) after a miserable November. After my last post, our old nemesis Nashville beat us 5-1 for the only regulation loss in December. Home wins over Boston and Minnesota (last night) followed. The Jackets start the new year with four games on the road.

The Kentucky men beat archrival Louisville 58-50 in the Yum Center last Saturday. It was quite a defensive struggle. Gotta believe those two teams will meet again in the tournament.

The Ohio State women have come alive with a rout of then #21-ranked West Virginia 96-54. As I type this, the Buckeyes are finishing up a rout of #16 Rutgers. A solid rebuilding year seems to be underway for OSU.

The Ohio State men lost their first Big Ten home opener in the Matta era, as Iowa visited Columbus Tuesday and left with a 71-65 win. The Buckeyes are better offensively this year, but perimeter defense is somewhat lacking after the graduation of Aaron Craft.

A Happy New Year to all readers!
