Recovering From a Little Mishap

September 13, 2021

This had been a fairly typical summer until the morning of Saturday, July 24th which I won’t forget anytime soon. I had gone to a city park with a bunch of ham radio friends of mine for coffee. Some of the folks had set up their radios and were making contacts on the bands. I intended to do the same thing. I got my rope ready to throw up in a tree and slipped and fell on grass still wet from the morning dew. I broke two bones in my leg and also my ankle. The following night I had surgery for insertion of pins, rods, screws etc. The surgeon has confirmed that the leg is healing up OK and he thinks I will be able to walk again in mid-October.

So, life has changed a bit around here. I am getting around the house fairly well, and have had help from my girlfriend and sister, as well as from some neighbors from time to time. In the meantime, life goes on.

It’s been a difficult start to the football season for Ohio State. The Bucks opened in Minneapolis with a 2-touchdown win over Minnesota which I didn’t get to see. This past Saturday OSU was knocked off at home by Oregon 35-28. So, clearly our defense needs work. We could still do pretty well in Big Ten conference play but improvement is needed right away.

Kentucky is 2-0 after a lopsided win over Louisiana-Monroe, and last Saturday’s 35-28 win over visiting Missouri. The Cats have a much more balanced offense, with a much better passing game than we’ve had in recent years. I would not be surprised to see UK win 8 games this year. Some folks expect even more.

The national championship is Alabama’s to lose, as frankly I don’t see any teams even remotely close to the Tide. So, they’ll have the playoff of course but I don’t know of anybody that can really give Bama a good game. They play Georgia in a couple weeks so that could be a good measuring stick.
