Blue Miata

October 24, 2010

My “sport driving” days are over as I wrecked the blue Miata in Owen County last Sunday. We were on KY state route 22. I evidently missed a turn, and we went off the road into a field. We were not hurt. The air bags deployed and the windshield broke. After cutting the air bags, I was able to drive to Bonnie’s house. The steel belts in the front tires are broken, and there is damage to the front bumper.

The Blue Jackets have been as good on the road as they’ve been bad at home. Last night in Chicago, they fell behind 2-0 in the first period, only to win 3-2. Columbus is above .500 at 4-3 heading into tomorrow night’s game against the Flyers.

Ohio State’s reign at number one didn’t last long with last weekend’s 31-18 loss at Wisconsin. We don’t play Michigan State this year, and the Spartans are the only team still undefeated in the Big Ten. Both Ohio State and Michigan State have to go to Iowa yet this year, so the Hawks will have a lot to say about who wins the league. There are a total of 4 teams with one loss, waiting for MSU to trip up.

Kentucky finally broke the string of 10-straight losses to South Carolina, but that is still the only SEC win so far this season.

Back To Work

October 10, 2010

I went back to work as a contractor on October 6. It is not my intent to work as much as I did before retirement. My hours will ebb and flow with the work. There is plenty to do right now, as it looks like no one picked up much of my work after I retired.

Ohio State is now number 1 as yesterday South Carolina beat previously #1 Alabama. Kentucky unfortunately is 0-3 in the SEC after close losses to Ole Miss and Auburn. Perhaps Joker Phillips is a bit shaky in his first year as head coach.

We spent a weekend at Shakertown back in September and enjoyed it thoroughly. I’ll announce here when the pictures are on my Flickr page. Also, we went to Bardstown and rode the dinner train (for lunch), and also visited the Civil War Museum and My Old Kentucky Home. All are well worth doing at least once.

I did not get to see either of the Blue Jackets’ games in Sweden where they split two games with San Jose. The first TV game for me will be Friday October 15 against Chicago.
