Kentucky In High Gear; Alabama Falls

October 10, 2021

I said I thought Alabama was going to be invincible this year. But I began having my doubts when Florida gave them a good game, losing 31-29. (I had incorrectly said the Tide was going to play Georgia). Last night, the Texas A&M Aggies upset Bama 41-38.

Georgia is probably the best team in the country right now. As luck (good or bad) would have it, that is Kentucky’s next opponent Saturday on CBS at 3:30 in Athens.

After a close win over unheralded Chattanooga, the Cats went on the road and pulled out a win at South Carolina. Kentucky then proved it is for real by knocking off visiting Florida the following Saturday. It was the first time we had beaten the Gators in Lexington since 1986. I was worried about a letdown yesterday as LSU came to town. But the Cats made quick work of the Tigers 42-21.

Ohio State may be “back”. After a win over unheralded Tulsa in a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate, the Bucks had lopsided wins over Rutgers and Maryland. Although Penn State lost at Iowa yesterday after losing their starting quarterback to injury, the Lions are a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten East. And, look who’s still undefeated: the Michigan Wolverines. It should be a great finish to the season.

Sunspot Cycle 25 has gotten going in a big way. As I type this, strong European stations are coming in on the 10-meter band (28 MHz.). With luck, good conditions will be with us for a few years as the new cycle builds to a peak.
